Across drawing, sculpture and text Evelina Hägglund presents situations that bring forth how bodies sustain balance under pressure—experiences that test how long a body can remain upright when equilibrium is not given but searched for in real time.
Working with weight, tension and instability, her practice engages the body not as image but as a physical site of negotiation where forces meet. Order shifts into collapse, endurance into release.
In a time marked by ecological, political and psychological instability, Hägglund’s work tests what it means to stand, physically and existentially, within systems already in flux.
Her installations place the viewer inside field of force where balance is continuously at risk, remains provisional, a question rather than a state.
Developed through the ongoing project ‘On How to Stand’ her work insists on the body as both a boundary and a medium: a site that holds, fails and holds again.
Evelina Hägglund (b. 1992, Stockholm) lives and works in Stockholm. After completing her bachelor degree at AVA - Academy of Visual Arts in Ljubljana in 2018, she entered the Master of Fine Art program at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she graduated in 2021. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions internationally, including at Ståhl Collection (2026); SWE, Kunstraum Niederösterreich (2025); AT, Södertörn University (2025); SWE; Golsa (2024); NO; Parafin (2023); UK; Green Family Foundation (2022) U.S.; Nicoletti Contemporary (2022), UK; Union Pacific (2021); Saatchi Gallery, (2021) SWE; Kiribati National Museum, (2019) Tarawa, KI; Temporary Gallery, (2016) DE; and the Biennial of Graphic Arts, The Museum of Modern Art (2015), SLO. She received grants and awards from The Swedish Arts Committee (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026); The Goethe Institut (2023); Goldsmiths, University of London (Warden’s Award, 2021); Fredrika Bremer förbundets foundation (2020); Sixten Gemzéus foundation (2019); The Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts (2019, 2025), among other.
